I’ve tried countless foundations over the years, but this remains the one I consistently come back to. It delivers buildable, medium-to-full coverage that feels completely weightless on my skin and genuinely lasts all day. It also gives a really radiant, soft-focus finish that effortlessly blurs imperfections, and the formula is boosted with a whole host of antioxidants to protect against free radical damage. For me, it delivers on every promise that so many foundations make, but few actually fulfil.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder

Let’s be honest, no powder has ever earned a more permanent place in my makeup bag than this one. I always reach for this when I need my makeup to be set for the long haul, without sacrificing luminosity. Ultra-finely-milled and virtually undetectable on the skin, it blurs pores, smooths texture and keeps shine at bay without ever dulling or drying out my skin. Plus, it’s refillable!

Pearl Beauty At Last Mascara

You’ve heard me mention this mascara countless times, which probably says a lot more than the next few sentences will. However, if long, lifted and super-defined lashes that never flake or smudge is your goal, then this mascara is definitely for you. It’s also very buildable, and my most favourite thing about this tubing mascara is the fact that it can be easily removed using just warm water.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer

Some makeup products become cult classics for a reason, and this concealer is a prime example. Whether I’m covering dark circles, redness or the occasional breakout, it always blends seamlessly into my skin, delivering full yet natural-looking coverage that lasts all day. Its creamy and hydrating formula also means that it never settles into fine lines or goes patchy under my eyes.

Rare Beauty Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter

While many highlighters can often veer into glitter territory, this one strikes the perfect balance between luminosity and blurred radiance. The silky formula melts seamlessly into my skin giving me that warm, lit-from-within glow that says ‘sophisticated’ rather than ‘sparkly’. Plus, a little goes a really long way so these highlighters last for ages. My favourite shade is Mesmerize.

Vieve InvisiVeil Setting Spray

The final step of my makeup routine is always a generous spritz of this setting spray. It locks everything in place while taking away any powdery finish, leaving my skin looking fresh and flawless. It can also be used to prime your skin pre-makeup and to effortlessly refresh your look throughout the day if needed. Plus, unlike many setting sprays on the market, this one is alcohol-free so it never leaves my skin feeling dry or tight. Instead, it keeps my complexion deeply hydrated and my makeup flawless all day.

Powered by a powerhouse cocktail of nourishing sea fern extract, radiance-boosting crocus bulb extract, a plumping peptide complex, and clarifying niacinamide, this mask works in just 15 minutes to leave my skin perfectly prepped for flawless makeup application. And my favourite thing about this mask? It can be used up to three times!

Medicube PDRN Pink Collagen Gel Mask

Bringing cutting-edge ingredient PDRN (aka ‘salmon DNA’) to the mainstream sheet mask market is trailblazing K-Beauty brand, Medicube. This hydrogel mask combines collagen with PDRN to noticeably enhance skin firmness and luminosity while supporting optimal skin repair and balance. It’s a game-changer when my skin is feeling dull, dehydrated and desperately in need of that post-facial glow (but in the comfort of my own home).

Dr Jart+ Cryo Rubber Brightening Hydrogel Mask

Inspired by the effectiveness of cryotherapy treatments, this two-step mask pairs a skin-brightening ampoule (highly-concentrated serum) with a rubber-textured hydrogel mask to lock in hydration and enhance absorption of the active ingredients. Powered by niacinamide and peptides, this mask works in just 20 minutes to deliver a visibly brighter, more even skin tone while its cooling effect significantly calms puffiness. This is consistently my go-to when toddler mum life has my skin looking as tired as I feel.

Beauty of Joseon Centella Asiatica Calming Mask

I reach for this ultra-lightweight, breathable option when travel or seasonal changes leave my skin feeling particularly dry and sensitive. Especially formulated for stressed-out skin, this mask delivers a very high concentration of centella asiatica (aka ‘cica’) which is renowned for its superior soothing and barrier-supporting properties. The formula is also boosted with green tea and mugwort extracts to reduce redness and inflammation, while multi-weight hyaluronic acid replenishes lost hydration and a potent blend of antioxidants helps shield skin against environmental stressors which can aggravate sensitivity.

My Top Tips

· For a greater de-puffing effect, store your mask in the fridge before use.

· Always apply to freshly-cleansed and exfoliated skin for better absorption.

Another month into 2026, and yet more proof that the K-Beauty takeover is showing no signs of slowing down. Korean brands are continuing to redefine what’s ‘new’ with ultra-purposeful ingredient pairings and increasingly sophisticated delivery systems which push skincare efficacy even further.

But what’s equally compelling this month is the response from other global brands. UK and US brands, in particular, are successfully upping their games to compete by redefining their strengths and doubling down on those high-performance actives and game-changing formulas that put them firmly on the beauty map.

Every launch feels sharper, smarter and more considered than ever. So, this month’s edit is about those products really shifting the needle in the skincare category! Here’s what’s captured every inch of my attention…

Erborian Ginseng Micro-Shot

This microneedling-inspired serum, designed for at-home use, utilises cutting-edge Korean technology powered by naturally-derived spicules. These spicules are ultra-fine micro-needles which create ‘micro-channels’ on the skin’s surface to help activate natural skin renewal and aid better delivery of the formula’s unique combination of hero ingredients: collagen and collagen-boosting Korean ginseng. The results? An immediate improvement in skin smoothness and elasticity. This formula is also available in two strengths: 0.1% (for new users of concentrated or exfoliating skincare) and 0.3% (for experienced users).

Sounds to me we’ve been served yet another age-defying masterpiece from the elite realm of K-Beauty.

Paula’s Choice 1% BHA Gentle Exfoliating Gel Toner

A true mic-drop launch, this month saw Paula’s Choice release its pioneering BHA toner in a lower strength (1%) for those with sensitive, very dry and even rosacea-prone skin. Still delivering the renowned clarifying, smoothing and pore-refining benefits of salicylic acid, this formula boasts the additions of redness-calming allantoin, hydrating mushroom extract, and prebiotics to support the skin’s microbiome and reduce sensitivity over time. The clinically-proven formula also offers a new gel texture which allows for effortless application with clean fingertips. The OG authority on exfoliating acids has spoken, and it seems high-performance BHAs are no longer off-limits for sensitive skin.

Classic AHA heroes glycolic, lactic and mandelic acids work alongside, in my opinion, the highly-underrated shikimic and phytic acids to visibly resurface skin. These actives are additionally boosted by hydrating gluconolactone (PHA) and pore-refining salicylic acid (BHA) for an all-bases-covered approach to a flawless complexion.

Chantecaille Blanc Peony Overnight Mask

Chantecaille has pulled out all the stops with its latest launch for advanced dark spot reduction. Clinically proven to reduce the look of dark spots by 74%*, this potent night mask is formulated with a proprietary blend of luminosity-boosting white peony extract and thiamidol which is proven to be significantly more effective than vitamin C in treating dark spots. No bride wants pesky imperfections on her wedding day. Although one or two blemishes can be easily concealed, the likes of enlarged pores, excess oil and angry spots can impact the application, longevity, and overall look of your makeup. While baby skin is renowned for being irresistibly soft and smooth, its structure is very fragile, permeable and more reactive than adult skin. In its early months, a baby’s skin barrier (outer skin layer) is still developing, meaning it loses moisture more quickly, absorbs ingredients more readily and is very prone to dryness, irritation and flare-ups. Where it can get complicated for us as parents is the lengthy ingredients lists and misleading ‘kind to skin’ claims which, in many cases, aren’t particularly ‘kind’ to baby skin at all.

In this edit, I’ll break down the key things your baby’s skin needs when it comes to different products, the ingredients you should be prioritising and, most importantly, those you should approach with caution to help avoid common issues like eczema, dryness and general sensitivity. Having said that, it’s important to note that, as with everything, it’s impossible to tick every single box 100% of the time, and what suits one baby’s skin may not work for another. But, hopefully the following can help steer you in the right direction within this ever-growing minefield.

Bubble Bath / Body Wash

Bubble bath should gently cleanse the skin of impurities without compromising its protective barrier. Therefore, the priority should be a pH-balanced formula which helps to maintain your baby’s delicate skin microbiome and support optimal skin health. Another key consideration should be focusing on fragrance-free options to prevent unnecessary dryness, irritation and flare-ups such as eczema.

You should also be conscious of heavily-foaming formulas as these often indicate the use of harsh surfactants (cleansing agents) which strip vulnerable baby skin of its natural oils.

Look for formulas that are: pH-balanced, fragrance-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free, phthalate-free, formaldehyde-free, artificial dye-free, dermatologist-tested / paediatrician-approved, clinically proven, and hypoallergenic.

Generally speaking, red flags are: Lots of foaming, a strong scent and a squeaky feeling on the skin post use.

Moisturisers & Lotions

A well-formulated baby moisturiser should do one essential job: support your baby’s natural skin barrier. The most effective formulas combine humectants to draw in hydration (e.g., hyaluronic acid, glycerin, aloe vera), emollients to soften and smooth (e.g., ceramides, colloidal oatmeal, coconut oil) and occlusives (e.g., shea butter) to lock moisture in. In doing so, they protect delicate skin against dryness and irritation. Also consider formulas containing prebiotics / probiotics as these help maintain the delicate balance of your baby’s developing skin microbiome.

As with bubble baths, it’s wise to choose a fragrance-free formula, avoiding strong scents and essential oils that can trigger sensitivity. Texture matters, too. The ideal consistency is a medium-weight lotion to provide balanced hydration (think: yoghurt). The formula should not be like milk and instantly disappear before it can deliver moisture, nor should it be the thickness of clotted cream and leave behind a sticky, non-breathable residue.

*TOP TIP: Apply moisturisers/lotions while the skin is still damp to quickly lock in existing hydration and prevent unnecessary moisture evaporation that leads to dryness.

Look for formulas that are: fragrance-free, pH-balanced, sulfate-free, paraben-free, artificial dye-free, talc-free, dermatologist-tested / paediatrician-approved, clinically proven, and hypoallergenic.

Generally speaking, red flags are: Very thin, very thick or strongly-scented formulas.

Sunscreen

A baby sunscreen should deliver highly-effective protection that’s ultra-gentle on delicate skin. The non-negotiables are a broad-spectrum formula (protects against both UVA & UVB rays), a minimum SPF of 30 (but ideally SPF 50+), and (very importantly for babies) a mineral-based formula using either zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. The latter is because mineral UV filters sit on the skin’s surface to deflect UV rays rather than being absorbed into sensitivity-prone skin.

Opt for fragrance-free, hypoallergenic and water-resistant formulas for optimal care and protection, and it’s also recommended to choose creams or roll-on (sun stick) formats over sprays to minimise both irritation and the risk of inhalation.

*NOTE: It is generally recommended not to use sunscreen on babies under 6 months old. Instead, keep infants fully in the shade, use hats, and dress them in light, protective clothing. Even when sunscreen is thoroughly applied to babies over 6 months old, keep them out of direct sunlight to avoid heat stroke and/or heat rash.

Look for formulas that are: Mineral-based, broad-spectrum, (ideally) SPF 50+, oxybenzone-free, avobenzone-free, octinoxate-free, fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, water-resistant, dermatologist-tested / paediatrician-approved, clinically proven, sulfate-free, paraben-free, and artificial dye-free.

Generally speaking, red flags are: Chemical UV filters (e.g., oxybenzone / avobenzone / octinoxate) - this does not apply to adults, strongly-scented formulas, SPF ratings below SPF 30.

Wipes

Baby wipes should gently cleanse without disrupting the skin barrier. This is especially important given how frequently they’re used. The key things to opt for are formulas with minimal ingredients and a high water content. The higher the water content, the less potentially irritating chemicals are present. Again, choose fragrance-free wipes (especially for such a delicate area), and it’s also very wise to avoid those containing alcohol or plastic – which a surprising amount of wipes do! Where possible, biodegradable options are a gentler choice for both your baby and the environment.

Look for formulas that are: Fragrance-free, pH-balanced, alcohol-free, plastic-free, biodegradable, hypoallergenic, paraben-free, sulfate-free, dermatologist-tested / paediatrician-approved.

Generally speaking, red flags are: Strong fragrance, sticky residue and a low water content.

Nappy Cream

Nappy creams should act as a protective barrier, shielding your baby’s skin from excess moisture and friction while reducing irritation. While formulas should calm and protect delicate skin, be cautious of commonly-used “soothing” essential oils and botanical extracts (such as lavender or chamomile) which can trigger skin reactions in some babies. Many nappy creams also contain common allergens like lanolin, as well as irritating preservatives such as phenoxyethanol.

Paraffin and/or petroleum are also common ingredients – not necessarily to avoid - but to be conscious of. Although generally considered safe for use when highly refined, the thick barrier they create can sometimes trap heat and bacteria which can make rashes worse. Instead opt for lightweight, breathable creams that are also lanolin-free and fragrance-free, but do contain barrier-supporting ingredients like zinc oxide, ceramides and panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5).

*TOP TIPS: Apply to dry skin, so as not to trap unwanted moisture which can worsen rashes. Also, don’t overuse nappy cream as the skin needs time to breathe in order to heal.

Look for formulas that are: Fragrance-free, lanolin-free, hypoallergenic, paraben-free, pH-balanced, dermatologist-tested / paediatrician-approved.

Generally speaking, red flags are: Lots of essential oils and botanical extracts, strong fragrance, high lanolin content, very thick consistency.

Ultimately, the ideal baby skincare is about respecting a baby’s delicate, still-developing skin barrier. Across every category of baby products, always keep in mind that you should be opting for short ingredients (INCI) lists with purposeful ingredients. Champion those which maintain the natural pH balance of the skin and support the skin barrier while avoiding lots of chemicals and strong fragrances.

Remember to bear in mind that even some natural fragrances (from essential oils or botanical extracts) can irritate delicate baby skin as they contain high concentrations of allergens. That’s why it’s always wise to opt for fragrance-free formulas.

Above all, don’t be afraid to question ‘kind to skin’ claims. The products that are truly kind to your baby’s delicate skin are not defined by words, but by what they do and don’t include.

· Change nappies frequently to prevent nappy rash, allowing the area to briefly air dry before putting a clean nappy on.

· Always ensure bath temperatures are appropriate. The ideal baby bath temperature is between 37°C and 38°C (close to body temperature).

While most standard cleansers (foam, gel and cream products) are highly proficient at removing daily impurities, the vast majority are water-based formulas and are not designed to effectively dissolve the likes of sebum, heavy make-up and sunscreen. So, using a water-based cleanser alone means that oil-based residue is constantly left on your skin.

For a truly thorough cleanse, use an oil-based cleanser (to dissolve oil-based products like make-up and sunscreen) followed by a water-based cleanser (to remove sweat, dirt and other impurities). This two-step approach ensures a deeper cleanse to prevent clogged pores and breakouts, enhances skincare absorption, and also helps your second cleanser to effectively deliver the added benefits it offers such as hydration, pH balance, or a radiance boost.

2. Incorporate facial massage into your routine

This one wins every time when it comes to minimum input for maximum output! Using just a few facial massage techniques as you apply your skincare noticeably improves both the immediate and long-term appearance of your skin.

Facial massage boosts circulation for enhanced skin glow, encourages lymphatic drainage to remove toxins and reduce visible puffiness, improves the absorption of active ingredients, and reduces facial tension which contributes to the formation of fine lines. Regular, targeted massage (particularly along the jawline, cheekbones, and brow line) can also enhance visible contouring and stimulate collagen production which leads to firmer-looking skin.

Skipped that double cleanse a few times this week? Reach for a clarifying face mask. Been a little light on the moisturiser? A hydration-heavy option is what you need. Skin looking as lacklustre as your energy levels? Opt for a radiance-boosting mask.

Today’s formulas span a sophisticated spectrum of chemical and physical exfoliants, with each offering specific benefits to serve an array of skin types and concerns. From glow-boosting AHAs and pore-clearing BHAs to next-gen PHAs and reinvented physical exfoliants, this guide will break down what sets exfoliants apart and how to use them correctly, plus the formulas I rate the most following my years of experience within the depths of the industry.

CHEMICAL EXFOLIANTS

Chemical exfoliants (aka exfoliating acids) primarily refer to 3 categories of ingredients: AHAs, BHAs and PHAs.

AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids)

What are they?
Water-soluble acids which are used to exfoliate the surface of the skin. They work by loosening the ‘glue’ that holds dead skin cells to the skin. They also stimulate skin cell renewal. Key examples are glycolic acid, lactic acid, and mandelic acid.

How do they benefit the skin?
By exfoliating the surface of the skin, AHAs work to smooth and brighten the complexion while delivering visible radiance and glow.

Ideal for: Those with uneven skin texture, discolouration, dullness and/or fine lines.

Suitable for: Normal, combination and mature skin types.

When to apply: Can be applied AM or PM, but PM is recommended to allow the ingredient to work effectively alongside your skin’s natural overnight regeneration process. Apply after cleansing and before the rest of your routine (including a moisturiser).

Be cautious: Whether using AM or PM, always apply sunscreen daily when using AHAs as the surface exfoliation process makes your skin more vulnerable and sensitive to the sun (photosensitive).

If you’re new to AHAs, it’s recommended that you start using a new product once or twice a week, gradually increasing the frequency to build up your skin’s tolerance. Stop usage if your skin shows any signs of irritation such as redness or flaking.

BHAs (Beta Hydroxy Acids)

What are they?
Oil-soluble acids which penetrate deep into the pores to dissolve excess sebum and dead skin cells. The most common and widely-used example is salicylic acid.

How do they benefit the skin?
By exfoliating within the pores, BHAs work to reduce the look of blemishes, blackheads, whiteheads and enlarged pores. They also help to combat breakout-causing bacteria while reducing inflammation and balancing excess oil production.

Ideal for: Those who suffer with acne, blemishes, blackheads, enlarged pores, and/or excess oil on the skin surface.

Suitable for: Oily, combination and blemish-prone skin types.

When to apply: Can be applied AM or PM, but PM is recommended to allow the ingredient to work effectively alongside your skin’s natural overnight regeneration process. Apply after cleansing and before the rest of your routine (including a moisturiser).

Be cautious: BHAs can be drying on the skin, particularly if your skin isn’t used to them. If you’re new to BHAs, start with a lower concentration formula (0.5% - 1%) and only use 1-2 times per week for the first couple of weeks to build up your skin’s tolerance. If your skin shows no signs of irritation, you can gradually increase your usage. Stop usage if your skin shows any signs of irritation such as redness or flaking.

Even if you’ve used BHAs before, always follow product instructions, don’t overuse, and always follow use with a moisturiser to support your skin barrier. Again, always apply sunscreen daily when using BHAs as the exfoliation process makes your skin more vulnerable and sensitive to the sun (photosensitive).

PHAs (Polyhydroxy Acids)

What are they?
PHAs are gentle exfoliating acids which, like AHAs, work on the surface of the skin. However, because of their large molecular size, they penetrate the skin at a slower rate without causing irritation.

How do they benefit the skin?
PHAs work to smooth uneven skin texture while brightening the skin tone and boosting radiance. They also act as humectants (binding moisture to the skin) and antioxidants (protecting the skin against external stressors).

Ideal for: Those who need a gentle formula but want to improve the look of uneven skin texture, discolouration and dullness.

Suitable for: Sensitive, dry, reactive and/or eczema-prone skin types.

When to apply: Apply AM or PM, after cleansing but before the rest of your skincare routine (including a moisturiser).

Be cautious: If you opt for a PHA because you have particularly sensitive skin, I would recommend doing a patch test before the first use, as well as gradually building up your usage over time. And, although correct use of PHAs should not cause photosensitivity, applying a sunscreen daily is always a good idea.

PHYSICAL EXFOLIANTS

What are they?
Also known as ‘mechanical’ or ‘granular’ exfoliants, physical exfoliants use friction to manually remove dead skin cells from the surface layer of your skin. It’s worth noting that, in most cases, today’s physical exfoliants have undergone a renaissance and shed their harsh reputation in favour of finely-milled, skin-respecting ingredients. The most common examples of physical exfoliants are natural ingredients such as jojoba beads, rice granules, sugar, or finely-milled seed powders.

*Microbeads are banned in skincare formulations in most countries as they are non-biodegradable plastics – harmful to both the skin and the environment. You shouldn’t come across them, but avoid if you do!

How do they benefit the skin?
They work by buffing away dead, dull skin cells to reveal the smoother, brighter skin underneath. In doing so, they also help to prevent blemish-causing build-up.

Ideal for: Those with significantly uneven skin tone and texture looking for immediate, surface-level results.

Suitable for: Normal and oily skin types.
*Avoid if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin.

When to apply: Apply AM or PM after cleansing and before the rest of your routine (including a moisturiser). Apply to damp skin using gentle circular motions.

Be cautious: If products contain abrasive materials (such as crushed nut shells) or are used too vigorously, they can cause micro-tears in the skin. These tears can cause significant irritation, damage the skin barrier, and serve as an entry point for bacteria.

I would suggest using physical exfoliants sparingly; typically 1-2 times per week to prevent over-exfoliation. Always apply sunscreen daily as the exfoliation process makes your skin more vulnerable and sensitive to the sun (photosensitive).

MY TOP TIPS WHEN USING EXFOLIANTS

1. If you’re using a new product for the first time, gradually increase your usage over a couple of weeks to allow your skin time to build up tolerance. If you have particularly sensitive or reactive skin, conduct a patch test before your first use.

2. Whether you’re applying an exfoliant AM or PM, always apply a sunscreen daily to protect new skin cells.

3. Never layer exfoliants on top of one another - e.g., do not apply a BHA on top of an AHA.
*Some products do use a combination of exfoliants for a dual-action effect but these will be an expertly-formulated balance that’s been tested for safe use.

4. Always follow a product’s instructions carefully. Some chemical exfoliants can be used up to twice daily, but only do so if this is specified on the packaging and always note your skin’s response before continuing.

5. Always moisturise after any and every form of exfoliation to protect your skin barrier and prevent irritation / dryness.

6. You can apply exfoliants either directly to the skin using clean fingers or by using a clean cotton pad. Most formulas will specify which is recommended for that product on the packaging.

7. Remember that the vast majority of chemical exfoliants are leave-on products, while most physical exfoliants are a rinse-off format. Again, always check product instructions.

One of the most refreshing shifts within the beauty industry in recent years has been the changing conversation around men’s skincare. More men than ever now recognise that a good skincare routine isn’t about vanity – it’s about health and confidence. But what’s often overlooked is the lesser-known fact that men’s skin is biologically different to women’s skin. Testosterone levels mean men’s skin is typically 20-25% thicker than women’s and has a higher collagen density, making it firmer and more resilient.

However, men also have more active sebaceous glands, which produce up to twice as much oil as women. This leads to significantly larger pores and a higher likelihood of blemishes and acne. Men’s skin also ages differently to women’s skin, with signs of ageing tending to appear later but more prominently when they do. Add regular shaving into the mix, and men’s skin is frequently exposed to irritation, ingrown hairs and a compromised skin barrier.

Understanding these differences, and knowing which habits significantly improve male skin, is key. That’s where my golden rules come in: the essential practices every man should follow to instantly improve and future-proof both the appearance and overall health of his skin.

RULE 1: Remain consistent and committed

It’s important to stay consistent with your skincare routine to maintain immediate improvement and protect your skin against visible ageing. While women often show earlier signs of skin ageing, men’s skin produces collagen slightly differently which can delay the appearance of wrinkles. However, when wrinkles do show up, they often do so more suddenly and prominently!

An ideal routine should include at least a cleanser, toner, moisturiser and sunscreen (in that order). And guys, please don’t skip the sunscreen in the morning as studies have shown that men are significantly more likely to develop skin cancer than women. RULE 2: Exfoliate regularly

Men should exfoliate 2-3 times a week to help prevent ingrown hairs, combat enlarged pores and avoid the build-up of bacteria, dead skin cells and excess oil which can cause blemishes and acne.

Opt for a chemical exfoliant which suits your skin type. Try to avoid physical exfoliants as they tend to cause more harm than good. More on this coming soon!

RULE 3: Choose ‘sharp and smart’ shaving

When it comes to wet shaving, always use a sharp razor and shave in the direction of the hair growth (with the grain) to prevent both ingrown hairs and irritation.

If using an electric shaver, prevent ingrown hairs by using a high-quality foil or rotary shaver that cuts hair just above the skin’s surface, shave with the grain, keep the shaver clean and fully charged, and avoid excess pressure.

Use shaving gel with a wet/dry shaver to prevent irritation.

RULE 4: Moisturise post shave

Shaving naturally exfoliates the skin and removes some of its protective oils, which is why post-shave hydration is so important. Applying a moisturiser after shaving helps to replenish lost moisture, calm irritation or razor burn, and keep both the skin and hair soft – reducing the likelihood of ingrown hairs.

To protect that moisture barrier, it’s also best to avoid applying alcohol-based, spray-on aftershaves or colognes directly to the face, as these can further dry out and strip the skin. Instead, consider using a specifically formulated post-shave balm, applied before your moisturiser, to soothe the skin and lock in hydration.

For an extra boost, incorporating a weekly hydrating face mask can help to restore and rebalance the skin’s moisture levels, supporting recovery after repeated shaving and keeping the complexion healthy, smooth, and comfortable.

RULE 5: Prioritise a post-workout shower

It may sound obvious, but it’s important to prioritise a shower as soon as possible after working out. We know that men’s skin is significantly more oily than women’s, so showering right after a workout prevents the build-up of that excess oil which can block enlarged pores and cause breakouts.

RULE 6: Don’t neglect your eye area

With both men’s and women’s skin, the skin around the eye area is notably thinner than it is on the rest of the face. While men may have generally firmer and more resilient skin than women, the eye area is often the first place to show signs of ageing such as fine lines, dryness and embedded dark circles. So guys, do yourself a huge favour and add a nourishing eye cream to your daily line-up.

RULE 6: Ensure proper beard care

Caring for the skin underneath a beard is just as important as maintaining the beard itself. Regularly washing and moisturising your beard not only ensures the health and easy management of the beard itself but also protects the skin beneath from impurity build-up, moisture loss and irritation.

It’s important to opt for a dedicated beard wash as regular shampoo is often too harsh on both the facial hair and the skin beneath. Follow washing with a beard oil, and gently massage into the skin beneath the beard to prevent itching, irritation and ‘beardruff’ (beard dandruff).

It’s finally safe to say: we can all agree sunscreen is a non-negotiable in every daily skincare routine to protect against both premature ageing and skin cancer. Yet, for many, choosing a sunscreen remains anything but straightforward. Enter endless information (and misinformation) coupled with SPF ratings and UVA vs. UVB, it’s no wonder we’re seeing brains as frazzled as unprotected skin.

The good news? I’m here to answer the most common sunscreen questions that have many of you stumped and also share my top-rated products for different skin types and preferences. So, let’s get to it!

What’s the difference between UVA rays and UVB rays?

UVA rays are long-wavelength ultraviolet rays that penetrate deep into the skin, reaching the dermis (the middle layer of the skin). They cause long-term harm such as premature ageing, collagen breakdown and cellular damage. As a result, frequent unprotected exposure can lead to wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, sagging and an increased risk of skin cancer.

UVB rays are shorter-wavelength ultraviolet rays that primarily affect the outer layer of the skin (the epidermis) and cause direct DNA damage. Prolonged unprotected exposure can result in sunburn, blistering and an increased risk of skin cancer.

An easy way to remember the above is: UVAgeing vs. UVBurning.

What does an SPF rating actually mean?

SPF stands for ‘Sun Protection Factor’ and measures how well a sunscreen protects the skin against UVB rays. The number that follows ‘SPF’ (e.g. 30) indicates how much longer your skin is protected against burning compared to if you weren’t wearing the sunscreen. For example, SPF 30 means your skin can tolerate approximately 30 times more UVB exposure before burning than it could without the sunscreen being applied. So, if your skin would normally start to burn after 10 minutes in the sun, applying SPF 30 could extend that protection to roughly 300 minutes. It’s therefore vital to know and be attentive to your own skin.

If you prefer to think about SPF rating more directly in terms of its UVB-blocking capacity, then as long as the sunscreen is applied evenly and frequently, SPF 30 will allow about 1 in 30 UVB rays to reach the skin - meaning it blocks around 97% of UVB radiation. By comparison, SPF 50 only allows 1 in 50 to reach the skin - blocking about 98%.

It’s also very important to note that the SPF rating reflects protection against UVB rays, so it’s imperative to choose a sunscreen that shields your skin against both UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) rays. Which brings us to our next question…

What is a ‘broad-spectrum’ sunscreen?

A broad-spectrum sunscreen is a sunscreen which protects your skin against both UVA and UVB rays – an imperative choice to shield against premature ageing, sunburn and skin cancer. For the highest possible protection, look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 50+, coupled with a 5* or PA++++ UVA rating.

It’s also worth noting that, in Europe, UVA protection must be at least ⅓ of the declared SPF rating to be able to be sold as a sunscreen product. So, all sunscreens sold in Europe will contain some level of UVA protection.

How much sunscreen do I need to apply for optimal protection?

For your face, neck and décolletage you should apply approximately ¼ of a teaspoon of sunscreen. Alternatively, you can use the ‘3 finger rule’. Apply a generous squeeze of sunscreen along your index, middle, and ring fingers then apply evenly.

For your body, you should use roughly 1 teaspoon for each arm, leg, back and chest. Or, per body part, measure by applying a generous squeeze from the tip of your middle finger to your wrist.

Do I need to reapply throughout the day?

You should reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours if you’re in prolonged and/or direct sunlight and always reapply after sweating, swimming or drying yourself with a towel.

You should also reapply sunscreen right away if you notice redness in your skin, however slight. If you’re indoors and not in direct sunlight or near windows, a single morning application generally provides sufficient protection for that day.

Do I need to apply sunscreen all year round?

Yes, absolutely! You should apply sunscreen every single day – even on cloudy days because UV rays can still penetrate clouds. UVA is actually present all year round and can largely penetrate glass as well as clouds, whereas UVB intensity varies depending on the season and time of day and is mostly absorbed by ordinary glass.

What’s the difference between mineral (aka ‘physical’) and chemical sunscreens?

In a nutshell, mineral sunscreens (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) sit on the skin surface and protect by reflecting UV rays. They work instantly and are generally less likely to cause irritation, so are a great choice for sensitive or blemish-prone skin.

Meanwhile chemical sunscreens (most commonly avobenzone or oxybenzone) absorb into the skin and work by converting UV rays into heat before releasing them. They take 15-30 minutes to take effect but are usually lightweight and invisible on the skin, which many prefer to the chalky residue that some mineral sunscreens can cause.

Both are highly effective, so it ultimately comes down to skin type and preference.

Can I still tan while wearing sunscreen?

Technically, you can. However, if you’re successfully applying and reapplying the correct amount of sunscreen needed for full UVA and UVB protection, then you shouldn’t be tanning – and that’s because tanning is a direct sign of sun damage! Of course, even perfectly-applied sunscreen won’t be able to completely protect the skin from UV damage 100% of the time, but try your very best as tanning not only indicates damage to the DNA in our skin cells but it also accelerates premature ageing. My advice? Embrace your pale complexion, or borrow that tan from a bottle.

Does a moisturiser or a foundation containing SPF work in the same way as a sunscreen?

Again, in theory this is a ‘yes’. However, it’s important to be aware that many non-sunscreen formulas containing SPF generally only offer UVB protection. You would also need to ensure that you’re applying an ample amount of the formula to sufficiently protect your skin, and also reapplying it which is not really doable when it comes to foundations in particular.

2. Check your sunscreen’s expiry date! A sunscreen typically lasts 12-18 months after opening, so ensure you check the PAO symbol. Read more on this here.

What are they?
Nano-sized but powerful vesicles (lipid particles) derived from stem cells or plants.

And what could be more exciting to round off this month’s best beauty launches than the merging of two industry trailblazers? Experts in their respective fields of high-quality, versatile skincare and wearable LED light therapy devices, Trinny London and CurrentBody have joined forces to offer two limited-edition skincare systems with a mission of boosting skincare performance using technology and vice versa. The available options are: The Skin Rewind (a complete anti-ageing facial skincare system) and The Ultimate Elevator (a dual-action neck and décolletage system).

Maintaining healthy skin isn’t just about the products you use. It’s also about how you use them. And, with so much contradictory information out there, it’s easy to fall into small but impactful habits that can quickly sabotage your skin’s health and appearance. So, let’s dig into the most common skincare errors people make and how to fix them.

1. MISTAKE: Avoiding moisturiser because your skin is oily

This is undoubtedly one of the most common errors people make when it comes to their skincare routine. Although you might think you’re doing your oily skin a favour by skipping a moisturiser, you’re actually making the problem worse! Starving your skin of essential hydration creates dryness (even in oily skin types), which then causes the skin to produce even more oil in order to compensate for the lack of moisture.

SOLUTION: Use a lightweight, oil-free moisturiser – especially one which helps to balance your skin’s delicate pH and oil production levels.

2. MISTAKE: Letting your skincare products go out of date

Yes, you read that correctly. Your skincare products expire! And using them past their expiry date can result in reduced effectiveness, bacteria spread, and irritation – particularly with active ingredients like vitamin C and vitamin A (retinol/retinal).

SOLUTION: Pay attention to the product’s PAO (period after opening) symbol, which tells you how long you have to use your product at its optimal effectiveness after opening it. PAOs usually appear in months, e.g. 6M = 6 months and 12M = 12 months.

3. MISTAKE: Not applying sunscreen 365 days a year

That’s right! Even in the winter you should be applying a sunscreen every morning. Not only are the sun’s UV rays the biggest cause of skin cancer, but they are also responsible for an estimated 80-90% of premature skin ageing ^[1] (e.g. wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and loss of skin elasticity).

SOLUTION: Ensure you are applying sunscreen every single day, ideally opting for an SPF 50 during the summer months and an SPF 30 during the winter months. You should also reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours when in direct sunlight.

4. MISTAKE: Not altering your routine as the seasons change

Many people underestimate the effects that the weather and temperature changes can have on our delicate skin. While freezing temperatures and cold winds cause extreme dryness and irritation for many skin types, the blistering summer heat, UV rays, and even air-con can also wreak havoc on our skin’s overall health and appearance.

SOLUTION: Focus on nourishment and skin barrier support during autumn/winter to prevent moisture loss and sensitivity, and enhanced sun protection and skin pH balance during the warmer months to avoid sun damage and excess oil production.

5. MISTAKE: Touching your skin without washing your hands first

I know it sounds obvious, but if I had £1 for every person I have seen applying their makeup or picking a spot after holding the hand rail on the tube then I’d be a very wealthy woman. Touching your face, in any capacity, without clean hands leads to the spread of bacteria which quickly multiplies on your skin and clogs your pores causing spots, irritation and even worsening existing breakouts.

SOLUTION: Always wash your hands before applying your skincare and makeup and, if you must scratch that itchy nose, try and do so with a clean tissue or sleeve rather than your fingers.

Which brings us to…

6. MISTAKE: Not washing your makeup brushes weekly

In the same way that bacteria accumulates on your hands, it also builds up on your makeup brushes along with product residue and excess oil. When bacteria collects on your brushes, it spreads directly to your skin causing clogged pores, breakouts and irritation before transferring directly back into your products.

SOLUTION: Wash brushes weekly with dedicated brush cleaner solution or mild dish soap to prevent the cyclical spread of impurities and bacteria.

7. MISTAKE: Using products intended for the face around your eyes

It may surprise you to know that the skin around your eyes is quite different to the rest of your face. The under-eye skin is much thinner and more delicate, making it particularly prone to dryness, sensitivity and accelerated signs of ageing. Because it’s so thin, it also absorbs products quickly, meaning it can become easily irritated by formulas that are otherwise fine when applied to the rest of your face.

SOLUTION: Only use formulas around your eyes that are specifically intended for that use. This is particularly important when it comes to actives like vitamin C and vitamin A (retinol/retinal).

We are less than six weeks into 2026, but this year’s beauty landscape is already signalling game-changing innovations, ingredient shifts, and diversions from the status quo. Here’s what my research and well-honed industry instincts have ID’d as some of the most intriguing trends set to dominate the months ahead…

1. The K-Beauty Takeover
Continuing the shed of its former identity as the source of viral (but temporary) skincare trends, it’s clear that K-Beauty (Korean beauty) is set for unprecedented growth in 2026. Driven by new innovations in formats and regenerative ingredients, K-Beauty is cementing its position at the centre of a unique junction between effectiveness, affordability and the increasingly popular concept of preventative skincare. From the highly-anticipated launch of Medicube’s PDRN Pink Collagen line to Anua’s latest skin barrier-boosting collab with our favourite KPop Demon Hunters, the wheels for greater market dominance are already in motion.

2. RetinAL > RetinOL
I have no doubt that 2026 will also witness retinal confidently overtake retinol in popularity. Both retinal and retinol are forms of the powerhouse anti-ageing ingredient, vitamin A and, while retinol is the better-known and more widely-available option, retinal (aka retinaldehyde) is more potent and faster-acting when it comes to fighting visible signs of ageing. Thanks to recent retinal launches from the likes of The Ordinary and The Inkey List, retinal has seen significantly increased exposure at a much more accessible price point than it has previously.

3. Skin-First Revival
Although a long-standing category in their own right, the skin-first approach to colour cosmetics that’s championed by BB and CC creams is tipped to return as the focal point of daily makeup routines. This move undoubtedly stems from the emergence of the most sophisticated formulations to date, which take the humble tinted moisturiser to brand-new heights. Think combinations of hyper-specialised skin benefits, flawless colour correction, unobtrusive yet higher-factor SPF protection, and new lightweight formats which offer all the durable coverage of the most sought-after foundations on the market. Leading this renewed charge for the skin-first approach? The likes of Armani Beauty, By Terry, Kosas, and IT Cosmetics.

4. Go-Go Gadget Skin
It’s also clear that at-home gadgets will continue to flourish throughout 2026, thanks to increasingly sophisticated tools using clinical-grade technologies to mimic both the experience and results of professional salon treatments – all in the comfort of our own homes. Take Shark Beauty’s recent FacialPro Glow and Depuffi launches, and Benefit’s new POREfessional Degunker as prime examples of this. We can certainly expect an even bigger boom in the likes of LED face masks, professional-grade sculpting tools, plus a sharp rise in app-driven beauty devices utilising AI-powered skin analysis for personalised results.

5. The Scent Shift
In the fragrance category, all signs point to a mounting trend in which traditional ‘base notes’ are taking centre stage to create more understated and multifaceted scents. Frankincense, cedarwood and labdanum are particular stand-outs here. This trend marks a notable shift away from carefully balanced 3-tier fragrance compositions (i.e. top notes, heart notes, base notes). Driving this scent restructure into 2026 are the likes of Bulgari, Byredo, and Gen Z favourite Saltair.

Much like in fashion, beauty trends come and go. Believe me, I know! But with those shifts comes the painful realisation that those half-used moisturisers, discarded serums and barely-touched palettes (for which we took out a second mortgage) no longer hit the mark.

To help avoid this disappointment, I’m here to share the products that have had me in a chokehold since day one. Many have resided in my beauty cabinet (and handbag) for years, and continue to serve me valiantly every single day - despite the vast competition they’ve come up against during my time scouring some of the world’s biggest beauty trade shows.

First up is Erborian’s Super BB Full Coverage BB Cream. A shining example of skin-first makeup, this hybrid formula delivers all the hydrating, brightening and refining benefits of a powerhouse serum alongside the flawless coverage of a lightweight foundation. Thanks to hero ingredients ginseng and niacinamide, it both conceals and visibly reduces blemishes, enlarged pores, redness and dark spots to give you an even, glowing complexion. Plus, it provides all-important SPF 20 protection. Although technically marketed for acne-prone skin types, I find it works perfectly for my combination skin all year round. It’s a product that demands compliments and has now officially replaced my ‘traditional’ foundation.

My next fail-safe product is Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow PHA + BHA Pore-Tight Toner. As well as smelling delicious, this alcohol-free toner deeply hydrates while reducing enlarged pores and blackheads. The formula is inspired by the Korean Aqua Peel Facial, so it utilises a gentle blend of a naturally-derived BHA (beta hydroxy acid) and a PHA (polyhydroxy acid) to clarify deep within your pores while refining your skin’s surface for maximum effect. It’s suitable for daily use and ideal for prepping your skin for makeup application.

When it comes to my daily SPF (and yes, you should be wearing an SPF every single day), my first choice is Ultra Violette®’s Queen Screen™ SPF 50+ Luminising Skinscreen™. As well as providing SPF 50+ protection against UVA rays, UVB rays and blue light pollution, this subtly-scented formula marks a complete U-turn from the age-old problem of SPFs that caused our foundation to cake or melt off our faces. Instead, Queen Screen™ is specifically formulated to work as both an SPF and a glow-inducing primer for makeup. It feels lightweight and nourishing, but not at all greasy. Since trying it, I refuse to be without it!

Here’s one that I’ve been gatekeeping for far too long… Pearl Beauty’s At Last Mascara. I genuinely can’t think of a single mascara I’ve ever used (and there have been way too many) that has come close to this one. It’s truly unmatched in both its application and longevity. No clumps, great separation and, most importantly for this busy mum, the durable formula never smudges or flakes. And it’s all because this tubing mascara uses polymers to wrap each individual lash in “tubes”, rather than painting them with traditional pigment. The result is superior definition and easy removal with just warm water! It’s also available in brown if you prefer a softer lash look. You’re welcome.

In my humble opinion, Tan Luxe is (and has always been) the holy grail of self-tanning products, and the Super Glow Hyaluronic Self-Tan Serum is the ultimate proof of this. Another champion in the skin-first category, it delivers a bronzed-but-never-orange glow while its exclusive hyaluronic acid complex and superfood ingredients reduce the look of pigmentation and shield against signs of dehydration and ageing. It’s fast-absorbing, so can be used morning or night and, miraculously, it never seems to go patchy despite how aimlessly my sleep-deprived self slathers it on. Even more appealing, I can vouch that it won’t stain your pillows if you decide to use it overnight.

Unlike many of its fellow viral beauty products, this one is actually worth the hype. A signature product of powerhouse K-Beauty brand Laneige, the Lip Sleeping Mask is the perfect embodiment of the skinification of once-basic lip balms. Delivering an entirely new level of benefits, this overnight treatment boosts moisture levels and improves lip firmness in just eight hours while also protecting against the drying and ageing effects of the elements. The biggest highlight? The huge array of delicious and immensely nostalgic scents. My personal go-to is Sweet Candy.

Finally, it’s a relatively new but treasured addition to my daily routine; the Diptyque Refillable Solid Perfume in Eau Rose. As well as being eco-conscious thanks to its refillable format, this ultra-thoughtful product is inspired by the traditional technique of enfleurage; a process used to capture heat-sensitive flower scents. The idea is that you apply the alcohol-free wax to your pulse points with warm fingers to both accentuate and prolong each delicate note within this heavenly fragrance. This has been a godsend for me while travelling, removing my constant fear of smashed perfume bottles in my suitcase.
